ABOUT

Creativity

As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to become an engineer but what made me an innovator is a journey!

When I was young, my toy of choice was Lego. A that time, the number of different bricks was limited. It was pushing you to imagine the combination that would best represent the idea you had in your head.

Each brick could be used a lot of different ways. Each new build was physical representation of an idea you got, a universe you invented…

I am pretty sure it bootstrapped my creativity.

« Creativity is Intelligence Having Fun » Albert Einstein

MacGyver was a TV show I would not miss for anything when I was a teenager. You wonder why! He always finds a way to get out of dangerous situation by using objects around him the deviating them from their primary use. And all is based on science. He represents perfectly the following idea

« Thinking out of the box »

I grew up at the same time as the personal computer became a central object into the household. More to me than a « window to the world », I found the PC and software development the best way to express my creativity and innovation without the limitations of the physical world.

« Creativity is just connecting things. » Steve Jobs

While programming, you constantly combine existing pieces of code. Just like Lego’s. I found here the perfect playground to innovate, to free up my creativity.

Entrepreneurship

When we talk about work environment, everyone can find its sweet spot. Some are risk averse and need certainty. They strive working for an entity, public or private, that can reassure them on their work future. I am definitively not one of them!

I have tried working in a very strict environment; being a former army officer. I have worked for big corporations and consulting firms. But I always found myself restrained.

« The only way to do great work is to love what you do. » Steve Jobs

I quoted again Steve jobs because this defines how my brain works. When I am presented with a repetitive task where my creativity is inhibited, I feels like I had pulled the brake. I am lazy, I procrastinate.

But, when I am able to create something, to solve a problem I never encountered, my brain sparks and I cannot stop before I get done.

This is why being an entrepreneur in the tech industry is my path. I don’t feel like I am working. I could skip lunch or forget to go to sleep.
